This book highlights the plight of the untouchables in India. A page was printed out of the book to share with you that even to get water from a well, the untouchables had to wait for a kind/willing upper class or Brahmin to pour water into their vessels.

In class, I wanted all to think about Mao's Last Dancer's mention of class enemy and how the idea of class dividions in society is very real. We briefly discussed if class segregation is apparent in Singapore and all agreed that there is some kind of a dividion between the rich and the poor but this is brought about by meritocracy rather rather than birth right. This is a video to give us some idea of what social stratefication is about:




Thanks to Danielle who insisted that I read this book. I printed a page out of the book to highlight the use of flashbacks in writing and also the use of irony.
